The Hudson Touring Car arrived in Bluefield and was placed on exhibition at Mercer County Automobile Company. The 1911 model is the first of its kind shown in the country and will be awarded as first prize in The Leader Subscription Contest.
Martha Owens of Finney, wife of Lee Owens, collapsed shortly after returning home from shopping for Christmas presents. She complained of pain to her eldest child, faded into unconsciousness, and died yesterday afternoon. Mr Owens, a real estate dealer, was away at Clintwood when notified.
Percival Johnson, general manager of Pulaski Iron coal operations at Eckman, is promoted to assistant to the president based in Philadelphia. J. H. Cunningham, formerly with Virginia Iron & Coal in Iron Mountain district, will replace Johnson at Eckman. Mrs. Johnson traveled to Hershey en route to Hosnoke for the move.
H. F. Howell, formerly Bluefield police ally now with Baldwin-Felts on the Virginian railroad, was shot in the hip during a raid on a Princeton negro dance seeking Ju Hus Chandler. Chandler, accused of bootlegging, escaped after being fired upon. Chandler was in Bluefield yesterday for whiskey. A bystander, Leo Chicago, reportedly a colored man, was wounded in the neck by Howell's gun. Howell was underwriting Princeton police in the raid.
T N Gwynne of Rich Creek Virginia, owner of a large coal land boundary in the Winding Air district, was in town today to buy Christmas tricks for his family. A baby girl was born this morning at 9 o'clock to Mr and Mrs Rawley of 17 Rogers Street. Leader Want Ads Bring Rewards.
