Washington reports the Ford Newberry contest over Michigan's 1918 senatorial election was submitted to the senate by the privileges and elections committee. The majority report clears Senator Newberry of corrupt practices act violations while the minority contends expenditures were made with his knowledge. The senate will decide his seating, with a final ruling weeks away.
London Sept 29 The note to Eamon de Valera proposes a conference in London on Oct 11 to resolve the Irish issue. Lloyd George seeks a discussion on reconciling Ireland's national aspirations with the British Empire. Ulster Unionists say the missive may ease De Valera's willingness to meet again.
Berlin September 20 The foreign affairs commission of the Reichstag today gave its approval to the ratification of the peace treaty with the United States.
Arguments stretched late into the day in Lewisburg as John Collins faces trials on charges of attempted murder and violating the Red Man's act related to the Mohawk shootings in McDowell county. Defense witnesses offered Collins as an alibi claiming he was not in Mohawk the night of the incident.
President W W Lee of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen said a tentative strike order would be issued only if other unions join. Ninety percent of 186 000 members voted to strike over a twelve percent wage cut, with decision now in the hands of four unions and their grievance committees.

Evanaville Ind Sept 29 The body of W B Wylie manager of the West Virginia Coal Company at Seabree Ky with six bullet holes in it was found near his home early today Bullets of two calibres were found in the dead man s body A volley of shots was heard Wednesday night but investigation did not disclose the cause Wylie failed to return home Wednesday night and a searching party found the body this morning

The adjutant general noted difficulty in supplying demand for reorganized guard companies.
Charleston, Sept 29 The state capitol commission adjourned without choosing a site for the new state house and deferred decision to Governor Morgan. Secretary Houston G. Young said the delay aims to gather more information and data, expecting two to three weeks to collect it.
Madison West Virginia September 29 a Boone county grand jury today voted indictments against persons for violations of the Johnson pistol law and for insurrection connected with the armed march toward Logan county. Prosecutor Mullens estimated about 100 indictments will be voted before Saturday as the panel continues its session.
General John J. Pershing visited Mainz in a ceremony with 6,000 French troops in Mainz city hall square. American and French bands played both nations anthems as General Degoutte and General Guilaumat welcomed him. A 21-gun salute and 2000 homing pigeons carrying dispatches marked the occasion.
