Beckley AP reports Emmett Oswald Wiseman former state senator and delegate died Sunday in Raleigh General Hospital after a long illness. He was 86, served in the House of Delegates in 1935 and in the state senate from 1935 to 1937, owned Wiseman Drug in Fayetteville for 63 years, and held roles as Fayette County commissioner president of the county board of education and Fayetteville Town Council member.
A new group named Concerned Citizens for the Betterment of the Community forms in Princeton to back City Manager Gary Christie, whose job is at risk after a council vote. The group aims to influence Princeton’s economy and quality of life while seeking to fill a council vacancy and support Christie. The council dismissed Christie in a 3-2 vote, prompting the formation of the steering committee to organize efforts.
United Way of the Virginias hosts a two day Carnival of Caring at Center Court Mercer Mall to collect canned goods for Salvation Army distribution. All 39 local agencies join with booths, balloons, refreshments, and performances by Girl Scout and Montcalm students. Friday opens at 3 30 PM with Piedmont Pilot Larry Fuda and Montcalm bands at the mall entrance.
