Police in southwestern Michigan report solving a string of pillowcase burglaries across Ottawa Muskegon and Newaygo counties. More than 25 homes were hit with cash jars jewelry and other loot taken. A cigarette butt on a Muskegon County kitchen floor linked to the crime led to arrests.

Organizer Ted Hatfield noted crowds typically reach 1,200 to 1,800 for the pig roast and concessions. Camp Creek area also advances a $650,000 sewage treatment project.
Actress Natalie Canerday who played Elsie Hickam in October Sky looks forward to meeting Rocket Boy Homer Hickam in Coalwood on October 3 for the festival. She recalls reading the script years ago and says the true story of the McDowell County Rocket Boys remains popular, with the 1999 film shot in Tennessee and Virginia.
