A 16 year old Fairmont youth, Phillip Shipley, was reported in good condition at Fairmont Emergency Hospital after accidentally shooting his left leg while hunting groundhogs with a shotgun. Conservation Officer Howard McCullough disclosed details of the hunting accident.
The West Virginia State Supreme Court granted a temporary injunction to halt a strip mining operation by Penowa Coal Co in Brooke County. Miss Zelma Amspoker of Cross Creek district claimed the firm mined on her property beyond lease terms dated March 26 1956. The 3-2 ruling takes effect once a $5000 bond is posted with the Brooke Circuit Court Clerk.
Dr. William B. Rossman announced a $752,025 contract to B. F. Parrott and Co. of Roanoke Va for remodeling and fireproofing six main wards at Spencer State Hospital in Charleston. The Legislature had appropriated $850,000 for the project.
