NEW YORK AP Twenty years after 9/11 the nation marked the anniversary with solemn memorials and prayers for unity. Victims’ relatives and four US presidents attended at sites from Maine to Guam as foreign leaders offered sympathy amid ongoing Afghanistan withdrawal and continued acts of service nationwide.
First responders reflect on how the September 11 attacks reshaped their careers and daily work in Princeton. Stacey Hicks recalls being impacted as he watched the exchange of news feeds and the second plane strike, noting the event's lasting influence on their approach to service and duty.
Prayers, music and somber reflection marked the Patriot Day ceremony in Chicory Square Bluefield. With Bluefield Police and Fire departments assisting, Mayor Ron Martin led tributes to victims responders and those who carried the fight afterward in New York Washington and Shanksville, commemorating Sept 11, 2001.
Bluefield resident Randy Mooney, former Daily Telegraph publisher, is awarded the 2021 Adam R. Kelly Award by the West Virginia Press Association for lifelong service to state newspapers and communities. Don Smith announced the honor, established in 1991 in memory of Adam R. Kelly. Mooney called it an unexpected honor.
