A passenger airliner named Friday Flight 427 crashes while attempting to land in Pittsburgh on its long route from Chicago to West Palm Beach. Investigators report no immediate cause and mention likely severe weather as a factor.
The 11th annual MTV Video Music Awards highlighted Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley Jackson as the evening’s spotlight. The event focused on the music network itself by receiving an award for upstaging its own program.
WMMS-FM technician William Alford, 30, admitted cutting satellite feed wires on June 10 causing Howard Stern's nationally syndicated program to go off air at a rival station. He pleaded guilty to disrupting a public service and criminal trespass and faces up to two years in prison at Sept. 28 sentencing. He acted alone and no longer works for WMMS.
The Pike View High School will be dedicated at 2250 Eads Mill Road Gardner exit 14 off I 77. The ceremony includes a reception and tours following the dedication.

A jury in Mercer County Circuit Court found George T. Priddy not guilty of murder in the 1993 shooting death of Jeffrey Scott Vaught outside the Beach Club in Spanishburg. The defense argued Vaught killed himself. the state presented forensic gaps timing the death.
Princeton officials canceled a Thursday night council meeting about former city manager Dick Shakman. The agreement finalizes his exit with Shakman stating the deal will be sealed after May or Bill Draper represents the city. council approved the plan 4-2 after an executive session. The city will pay regular salary and benefits through Sept. 23 plus a $15,000 bonus for exemplary performance on projects.
The West Virginia Press Women plan a two day program themed Southern Hospitality 94 in Mercer County. Events include a 6 p.m. meet with National Federation of Press Women First Vice President Ruth Neil Anna at Princeton and a dinner hosted by Johnston Holroyd and Associates. Saturday features Bluefield tours, a Bramwell visit, and a 12:30 p.m. Fall Awards Luncheon at the Ramada Inn with keynote by Anna.
A WV Public Works partnership meeting in Princeton features election of 1994 96 officers, presentation of the 1994 Communications Contest Awards, and a business session. One Valley Bank of Princeton provides canvas totes with the WVPW logo, plus favors and door prizes from local businesses. Stoker and Caryn Gresham of Charleston co chair the event.
