Earl Rowland Wichita Kansas in a Cessna A machine was fourth after engine trouble while Emery Jr Bradford Pa outstaged his Travelair to the ground and Robert Dake Pittsburgh in an American Moth checked in third. Rowland led the field from Fort Worth at 6 30 this morning and four planes were still unaccounted for late tonight.
Diegen would be pleased as D H Riker of Los Angeles settles a federal court penalty after six years. Riker was fined $1000 for sending fraudulent sales literature. he avoided payment by pauper’s oath. Associated Justice John Preston, once his attorney, delivered the check to the federal court.
An alienist testified Leo Pat Kelly appeared emotionally normal amid the Kelley murder trial after the slaying of Myrtle L. Mella. Dr Joseph Catton said Kelly was of sound mind when he allegedly beat the 41 year old matron to death with an empty bottle. Kelley plans to resume testimony next Tuesday.
Morgantown Sept 4 The West Virginia University board approved five new faculty members for the newly created physical education department. Names include Lloyd Jones from Western State Teachers College, Harry L. Samuel from the University of Michigan, Beatrice Hurat, Beatrice Hellebrandt, and Beatrice Thomas, all UW graduates. The board also appointed H Henderson to head the dairy husbandry department and George H Colebank as principal of University High School. A proposal to make physical education compulsory for freshmen and sophomores will be considered.
President Coolidge spends three months in Wisconsin with limited public remarks and steady daily routines.
