Bluefield Man Drowns In Claytor Lake Near Pulaski Va
Bluefield general contractor Hallie C. Bourne, 58, of 112 Union Street, drowned when he fell or stepped from a fishing boat into 30 foot deep Claytor Lake while tubing a trot line with his son Clyde Bourne and son in law C B Lowder. His body was recovered at 11:15 a.m. Monday by Radford lifesaving and first aid crew. Coroner Dr A F Thornhill ruled accidental drowning. Bourne resided in Bluefield 37 years and was a Mason and member of Grace Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Nannie Gilbert Bourne, a son Clyde, a daughter Mrs Lowder, one sister and three brothers. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

In Huntington West Virginia on September 6 a 17 year old babysitter Juanita McDowell confronted a would be robber in a home where she cared for three children including a six month old. The assailant 16 was arrested and admitted the attempted holdup. The youth fired at the teen with an unloaded pistol but she grabbed it and the gun discharged harmlessly.
