Dr Edward Glasgow lies dead from a bullet to the head and his wife wounded after a late night shooting at a Brazil Indiana home. The couple had separated and were to discuss a divorce when the attack occurred. Mrs Glasgow is jailed on a murder charge and attorney Charles Whitlock is detained. Glasgow claimed her husband began firing then shot himself. doctors say the wife could not have fired the injury.
Alfred Harrison arrives with word from Herschell Island that Ernest Stefansson and three expedition members may be dead after the Arctic schooner Duchess of Bedford vanished near the Mackenzie river region. Stefansson had led the Anglo-American Arctic expedition seeking a new continent north of the Mackenzie river.
Three masked men stalled a Rock Island Express near Murdock Nebraska boarding a chair car and robbing passengers of pocketbooks as conductor drew a gun but was forced to drop it. Detectives and a sheriff's posse pursued the robbers who escaped after collecting cash.
Washington reports Judge Jude Montgomery master in chancery overseeing the North Carolina rate case fell ill with acute indigestion while in North Carolina. He was brought to the hearing in Washington but, feeling unwell, ordered a postponement of the session and adjourned the inquiry.
Montreal, Sept 6. Plans to create a special abattoir for horse slaughter could lead to selling horse steaks colt veal and horse hamburgers with onions in local cafes. Dr Laberge municipal wealth officer says no reason horse meat cannot enter the market amid high beef prices. Horse meat is common in France and Montreal’s large French population could drive demand, possibly making this the first horse butcher in America.
The army and navy coordinate for a potential conflict in the Orient. Navy plans a Pacific cruise while the War Department orders Lieut. Abbott and Capt. Embrick to Manila to oversee fortifications at Manila and Subic Bay as the future naval base.
Washington reports say Colonel Howze chief of cadets at West Point may have overstepped his power by threatening to dismiss the entire cadet class over a Coventry incident. War Department officials note dismissal authority rests only with the president, and do not believe Howze went that far.
Wilhelmina Bache, held since age seventeen, is freed from Waupun prison in Madison Wisconsin after serving sixteen years of a life sentence for the murder of Michael Sell. Indications she is not guilty follow release. The life sentence was imposed by Governor Davidson.

A steamer Henry M. Stanley burned this morning between Charleston and Cincinnati near Gallipolis Island. An exploding lantern caused the blaze, but the crew narrowly escaped.
In Roanoke Virginia the case of R J Roop of Pulaski charged with seducing his niece was entered in corporation court. The niece testified he persuaded her to leave home and spend nights with him in Roanoke and Lynchburg while they posed as man and wife. The grand jury previously failed to indict but returned a true bill on the next session. Commonwealth's Attorney Draper assists Perkins. Roop is defended by R L Jordan and Judge N H Hairston. The prosecution faces a stubborn defense effort.
Rapid City Deadwood and Lead united for a three day celebration marking a new railroad era. The Black Hills pioneers pre 1877 were honored as the roll call found only 120 survivors. Governor Crawford and other dignitaries delivered addresses.
Waterloo dispatch lists eleven dead and seven or more injured after a Norris Iowa wreck when a northbound Rock Island passenger train derailed and crashed into a freight train. Names include H B Oliver and Will Goodman of Waterloo along with several unidentified dead and wounded from Iowa Minnesota and Indiana.
New York reports Ferdinand Pina ney Earle, an Orange County artist Socialist, defends his decision to send his young wife and their son to Europe to pursue freedom to marry another woman. He attacks press coverage as biased and harmful, saying no brutality exists in their arrangement. He cites a letter from his wife Mrs Fomle written while aboard the steamer Rydwn off Sandy Hook indicating her contentment and desire to end publicity.
Reston dispatch reports Attorney General Bonaparte avoiding discussion of Standard Oil and Alton matters. He travels from Maine and plans Chicago hearings with Judge Landis on September 18, then Washington on September 20. He hints at possible personal actions in the Alton case upon reaching the capital.
Frits Troxler, a Swiss immigrant in Hagerstown from Baltimore, rushes to police at midnight claiming he heard a plot to kill President Roosevelt. He says he belongs to a secret society formed to counter anarchists and spoke limited English. a German interpreter later questioned him.
