It records 39,584 locomotives, 1,150,838 cars, and 1,071,169 employees with wages totaling $610,713,701. Gross earnings reached $1,588,526,037. net earnings $558,128,767. total income $737,875,000. The year saw 8,455 deaths and 53,339 injuries, with most nonpassenger injuries caused by trespassing or at crossings.

Death of Mountain Lake Hotel manager shocks Bluefield
F. E. Dunkley longtime Mountain Lake Hotel manager died after a stroke at the resort. He appeared healthy in the morning and fell ill midday, dying within hours. Aged about 45, he left a wife and several children and was active in business and local affairs in Giles county and Bluefield. He owned part of the Mountain Lake property and other holdings in Newport Virginia and a store there. He was a Methodist and prominent in community life.
