Members of the Bluewell Lions Club will underwrite eye surgery for a county boy by next Friday, announced by Dr Nick Aneij. The group met at Club La Saluta in Banwell with International Counsellor C. O. Warren present. Aneli said the next Lions meeting will be a picnic for members and families on the 16th at Pinnacle Rock State Park.
The Small Business Administration approved a $310,500 loan to Elkins West Virginia Industrial Development Corp to build a new facility near Elkins for Reidbord Brothers Co to expand their garment factory. The project is expected to create about 400 new jobs.

Sheriff and state police reported the skid caused loss of control on the wet pavement six miles south of Keyser.
A 16 year old girl, Patey Hicks of Squire in McDowell County, was admitted with a concussion, abrasions, and multiple fractures after a Tuesday morning collision. Terry Christian, 12, of Montcalm in Mercer County, was treated and released for an injured ankle after being struck.
Roanoke Virginia AP reports Norfolk and Western Railway coal loadings reached 24 268 cars last week the highest weekly total since June 23 when 25 779 cars were loaded. The week surpassed a previous comparable period in 1961 with daily totals listed as 4 903 Wednesday 5 155 Thursday 5 104 Friday 4 60 and Saturday 935.
Virginia live poultry markets show steady demand and price ranges for broilers fryers turkeys and eggs. Slaughter estimates for Tuesday reach 710100 head for broilers and fryers with 3000 head of Rock Cornish and markets note mixed farm prices from 16 to 17 cents per pound while eggs rise with Grade A large at 42 to 44 cents per dozen and mediums 31 to 34 cents.
Mrs W W Barron will travel from Charleston to Marlinton Pocahontas County to crown the first Centennial Queen Mise Pocahontas Canty in a Wednesday night ceremony. The governor's wife is a Bowyer native in Pocahontas County.
Robert T. Beans, longtime retired editor of the Wheeling Inteligencer, died Monday in a Martins Ferry Ohio hospital at age 80. A Bridgeport Ohio resident, he joined the paper in 192. He retired in January 1957 but continued a weekly column until weeks before his death.
Labor Commissioner Lawrence Barker urged the 1963 Legislature to allocate 30000 for two truck capacity check stations on U S highways to inspect West Virginia tankers. He said one station could operate near Charleston on U S 60 and another near Clarksburg on U S 19, with annual checks for carriers. He also requested a 1963 44 budget of 364 7 million, funding two more safety inspectors and wage increases for staff.
Jimmy Lee Rhoney age 27 in Bluefield is appointed on an emergency basis to the Bluefield Police Department as a second shift officer. The move was approved by City Manager Randolph G White Acting Police Chief L Hi Lilly and was announced at a Bluefield Board of Directors meeting. Rhoney a recreation director at First Baptist Church and a North Carolina native will undergo Civil Service and physical exams before permanent appointment. Physical exams for new applicants are scheduled Sept 11 12 with Civil Service testing to follow after exams. Rhoney resides at 624 Pear and has lived in Bluefield since Sept 1958.
U S officials say a Soviet note accusing a U S aircraft of violating Soviet air space may reflect Kremlin propaganda. A Northern Pacific flight east of Sakhalin during a night mission encountered severe winds and possibly overflew Sakhalin's southern tip. The pilot reported a directed course but navigational error under difficult conditions.
Rebecca Francis Nipper of Tazewell Virginia died Monday after a long illness. She is survived by four daughters and six sons, plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services set for Thursday at 11 am at Hurst Scott Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hawkins Cemetery.

Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery Bluewell. She was born in Nelson County Virginia and lived in Bluefield 25 years. Survived by husband Henry L Williams and two sisters Nora Hairston Lynchburg Virginia and Josephine Manuel Cincinnati Ohio. Boots and Buddies Club and Helping Hand Circle will send flowers. deacon board will be pallbearers. Calling after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Samuel Hawkins Carter 7 of Mercer Pa formerly of Bluefield area and Gatlinburg Tenn died Monday. Survived by Mia Mary Miranda Carter his wife six sons Otis Wayne Glee Gray con Ray and James with addresses in Bozoo Mercer Dublin Walden and unknown. four daughters Ezlee Irene Hattie Sally. one brother Wesley Carter and one sister Lou Carter. 4% grandchildren 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial are scheduled Thursday in Pennsylvania.

Speakers include Dr Jane Freeman on immunization and birth defects registers, Harvey on radiological health, Gerald Guine on dental health and water fluoridation, and John Millar on sanitary engineering.
Elizabeth Shelton Bluefielder returns from Europe and Spain to be guest speaker at the Bluefield Old Guard meeting at Trinity Methodist Church College Avenue. She will show color slides from her travels and discuss experiences in Europe and Spain. The program was arranged by Old Guard member N. Fuqua.

Carter H. Livisay of Fort Gay died Tuesday morning at his brother J P Livisay’s home at 107 Houser Street Princeton. The body will lie at Lugo's Funeral Service pending funeral arrangements.

A car and a motorcycle collided on Princeton Avenue at Scott Street Tuesday afternoon with no injuries or serious damage. Hazel G Wells and Charles Earl Hale were involved. no charges filed. A second Tuesday accident on Bland Street involved Harry Duane O Dell in a rear end collision. O Dell was uninjured and no charges were filed.
Mercer County and neighboring Tazewell County Virginia schools opened with opening prayers left to the discretion of teachers and principals. Officials noted a Supreme Court ruling applying to a specific New York State Board of Regents prayer, not to other prayers.
