The Princeton City Council decided to let the South Avenue paving contract Thursday night after bidding opened three bids. Haynes Construction Company of Bluefield had the low bid at 13 099.50 to complete in 20 working days. Compton Construction and Brown and Wright submitted higher bids with longer time limits. The council scheduled a bid opening September 15 for alley paving in the S Mercer area and approved Appalachian Power Company plans to build two small concrete storage buildings for explosives east of the railroad, pending attorney amendments.

Scaffold Fall Kills Two Men at Kanawha Hotel
Two painters, James H. Tinsley and Joe Miller, died after scaffolding broke on the eighth floor of the Kanawha Hotel in Charleston. Tinsley, 38, of Sissonville, died after being carried from the roof. Miller, 27, of Charleston, died from massive skull and facial fractures in the alley. Area veterans received 5469.63 in the past month through the Bluefield office of the West Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs.
