Burglary and theft reported in Princeton area

Police blotter items show a Bramwell Hill house break in with a camcorder and freezer food taken. A weed eater and porch items vanished from a Princeton residence. Vandalism at Princeton Industrial Community Warehouses involved a torn lock. An attempted break in at Southern States damaged four windows. A Lincoln Street burglary saw a color TV and four platters removed.

Tight-lipped county case probes armored robbery report

Tazewell County sheriffs deputies and state police investigators work on a Saturday night incident in Jewell Ridge. Chief Deputy C G Edwards and Sheriff D J Johnson were away, with BCI aiding the inquiry. A vehicle theft was reported and recovered, while unconfirmed word spoke of an armed robbery at a local business.

Painter gets 30 month term in Abbs Valley Electric case

In Abingdon Virginia seven defendants were sentenced in U S District Court for the Abbs Valley Electric case. Robert Sarge Painter former owner of AVE drew a 30 month prison term after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy tax conspiracy and RCRA violation. The plea cuts the original 43 counts to ten felonies and one misdemeanor. U S Attorney Morgan Scott Jr said the scheme defrauded coal firms of over 900000 with more than 600000 diverted and personal expenses masked as company costs. Sherry BaileyPainter’s daughter received four months in prison plus four months home detention. Howard Cook received the same sentence for conspiracy and mail fraud. David Bailey and Gerald Tabor received two years probation and 50 hours community service. Albert Harless got two years probation for failure to file 1099 forms. Richard Weiner received one year probation. Painter and Bailey are to report to prison after arrangements with the Bureau of Prisons. Rashes Julie and Sharon face trial September 13 in Abingdon.

County drug sweep uncovers 240000 dollar marijuana crop

Mercer County marijuana plants found growing in wooded areas during a two day helicopter sweep by state police and partners. Trooper Bailes says the operation will destroy the crops and charges may follow if evidence supports it. Plants ranged eight to ten feet tall across Cheesy Creek Elgood Camp Creek Unity Gardner and Rocky Branch.

Medical examiner to determine cause of death in Princeton case

The Mercer County Sheriff's Department reports the body of Sherry Ann Jones, 30, of 129 White Pine Road, was found at her home Monday at about 6 24 a.m. The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death, with no foul play suspected.
