Halloween safety plan tightens amid arson fears
Sheriff Brooks outlined district patrols with county agencies and fire departments to curb vandalism and arson in vacant and dilapidated properties. He warned that blocked roads from downed trees or burning debris could endanger EMS response and threaten lives. Police in Bluefield plan extra patrols focusing on egging, vandalism, and ensuring children’s safety during trick or treat hours. Communities set varying Halloween hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in several towns including Athens, Bramwell, Princeton, Matoaka, Pocahontas, Richlands, and Tazewell.
