Women among heroes honored in Carnegie Fund medals
Pittsburg, ch 25 Ten persons and one girl stenographer were cited by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission at its fall meeting for acts of heroism. Thirty three medals were awarded and ten thousand dollars set aside for education of those involved and ten thousand for liquidation of debt and other purposes. Karin B Lundeberg, nineteen, of Hartford Conn, drowned saving Evelyn M Anderson. Gary Hemmer, fourteen, saved two boys at Gloucester Mass. David B Jordan, thirteen, saved Elizabeth Keevans at Wrightsville Beach N Y. Silver medals went to Grover C Hunter of LaGrange Ga and Mary Heidcamp of Kingston N C who saved others in drowning and grenade explosion respectively.
