Destructive hillside fire menaced timber and homes
Fire swept the red blaz ing hillsides at night with flames piercing black clouds and trees crashing afar. Long fire breaks were built to shield timber as crews worked double time, hopeful for rain. No deaths yet though one Logan youth burned. several mountain homes burned and families barely escaped with lives.

The Bluefield Athletic Association polo squad defeated Roanoke 8 to 3 in the first game of the series at the rink. Bluefield led 2 1 at the half as Edwards and Baker scored while Roanoke fouled once.
