Demolition of the old Shoney's cleared the way for Williamson Contracting to lay a foundation for a new Captain D's Restaurant on Bluefield Avenue. The upgraded site will include a 110-seat dining area and a drive through, boosting staff by six to eight and preserving a 25 year restaurant legacy. City Manager Ken Crabtree applauds the investment as the avenue improves with the project aiming to open by year’s start.

He is a CPA with 11 years of accounting experience and previously led accounting and financial reporting at Industrial Plating & Machine Inc. Lori Hansen, M D joins Carilion Giles Memorial staff in Bluefield after residency in St Louis and medical degree from Saint Louis University. She focuses on family practice with interests in women's health and adolescent medicine.

High tech names led declines after National Semiconductor warned on profits, with Infineon and Advanced Micro Devices dropping as investors awaited results from Amazon, Nortel and Compaq. Colgate-Palmolive rose on stronger earnings.
