Mercer grand jury issues 96 indictments

Mercer County Grand Jury return includes three first degree murder indictments, a first degree arson charge, and 81 counts of incest and sexual abuse against Larry Wert. Barrett faces first degree arson for a Bluefield blaze. Gaultney, Cline, and Rogers indicted for murder in Princeton and Bluefield cases. Docket setting Monday Oct. 21 at 9 30 a.m.

Tazewell County Sheriff Blotter Highlights Weekly Activity

Between Oct. 5 and 11 deputies handled three traffic accidents, made 57 arrests on various charges, served 222 civil papers, transported inmates 4 189 miles, responded to 131 calls, supervised inmates who collected 211 trash bags, and logged 310 inmate hours. Jail housed 249 inmates that week. Arrests included Tracy Kay Jones and Brian Reed for simple possession of a controlled substance, Michael Lane for DUI, Marlena Marcum for DUI, Franklin Carroll for brandishing and domestic assault, and Darrell Marrs for driving revoked for a DUI arrest.
