The Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South reports an $800,000 drop in income since 1930, from $1,500,000 to $700,000, yet Mission work remains well organized and progressing. The convention urged deportation of alien Communists, reduced immigration quotas, and stricter controls on Communist entry to the U.S. while opposing new bases for Japan and China and urging strong police collaboration to curb crime.
Richmond assigns C O Conor Goolrick of Fredericksburg to the state liquor control commission, to meet October 11 in the capitol and draft a control plan for the January legislature. The panel, of fifteen, must favor liquor control with local option, amid dry counties and city votes after the prohibition referendum.
Representatives of eleven Rotary clubs from Virginia and West Virginia welcomed Dr Edouard Willems of Brussels Belgium as director of International Rotary at a West Virginian hotel dinner. The program featured speeches songs and a talk on European conditions and Rotary aims.
