Saltville observes third Memorial for 5th and 6th US Colored Cavalry
In Saltville Virginia a crowd gathered for a memorial service on the battlefield overlook honoring the 5th and 6th US Colored Cavalry. State Senator Phillip P Puckett noted the fight for freedom as speakers and the Scott Street Baptist Church organizers recalled the soldiers missing in action and the Civil War's impact on reconciliation. The Southwest Virginia Community Mass Choir led songs including Lift Every Voice and Sing as youth participants lit luminaries with flags from Bluefield American Legion.
