Vorhies Case Settled Over Tech Football Death
An out of court settlement ends a long fight by Virginia Tech football player Robert Vorhies’s parents over alleged program negligence. The 14 million suit, filed in 1979 by Jerome and Delores Vorhies of Irvington New Jersey, was settled on terms still being negotiated but satisfactory to all sides. Bob Vorhies died after being subjected to punishment drills for dormitory infraction on November 21 1977. The incident prompted a state grand jury which found the school blameless. Jerome Vorhies continued the suit after the ruling seeking redress for his son’s death.
