Weekend burglaries targeted the General Telephone Company of the Southeast office in the Princeton Shopping Center and Princeton Junior High School. The telephone office suffered a rear-door entry, with cash and checks taken from a night depository. the junior high saw entry into the principal’s office and three classrooms, with $300 in damage but no theft confirmed.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department continues investigation into a theft from a 1981 Pontiac Trans-Am parked near a garage on Lilly Highway Addition in Princeton. Deputy R L Boone said items missing include four 15 inch radial tires two honeycomb wheels and a pair of T tops valued at 2200 dollars. The theft was reported early Sunday.

A source reports a 138000 volt transformer behind Four Way Shopping Center in Tazewell shot by a rifle caused a widespread power outage. Affected communities include Gratton Tip Top and Springville with crews working on restoration.
Deputy R L Boone reports a Sunday explosion caused major damage to a two story brick home owned by William Mills on the Bluefield Princeton Road. Gasoline jugs were found inside the house. Mr and Mrs Mills and their two children were away when the blast occurred in a first floor bedroom.
Mercer County Sheriff's Department reported a Sunday night break-in at Marvin Neely’s Oakvale home. Thieves kicked in a back door between 6:30 and 9 p.m. and took eight firearms including six shotguns and two rifles, a 32 string dulcimer, and a Timex watch, valued at $1,383.
