Former Swords Creek Youth Dies by Self Inflicted Wound

Trudy Garland Casey 17, formerly of Swords Creek Va, died Friday in Belcamp Md from a self inflicted chest wound in his hotel room at Bata Hotel Belcamp. State police said he used a .22 revolver after an argument with his girlfriend. Casey worked for a shoe company and lived in a company hotel room. He is survived by parents Curtis P and Nora Marie Dye Casey of Swords Creek, a sister Katie Simmons and three brothers Carlies Douglas and Carson of Swords Creek, plus three half sisters Gaynell Bostic Jeanette Bostic and Mavis Massey. Body to be taken to Honaker Funeral Home for arrangements.

Flair Discount store faces Sunday closing law dispute

Bill Ellis of Flair Discount Inc Bluefield says no warrants served as of Friday while Bluefield retailers press charges over Sunday opening. Warrants reportedly target Ellis Flair company and a Flair employee for Sunday business. Flair vows over one million dollars in lawsuits against Bluefield Chamber of Commerce and Retail Merchants Association and signatories. Ellis says lawsuits allege conspiracy to close his store after others stayed open. He expects warrants by Monday and plans to operate Sunday as usual.

Elks Lodge Memorial Service Set in Princeton

The Princeton Elks Lodge holds its annual memorial service Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the lodge headquarters on Douglas Street. Widows of deceased members are invited, with Madrigal Singers from Princeton High School providing music and The Honorable Walter Virgil Ross of Bluefield as principal speaker.

Police Seeking Clues To Death

Police pursue leads in the Thursday morning death of Roscoe Henry Hook 45 of Green Valley. Hook died at Bluefield Sanitarium after being brought from his home. an autopsy was ordered as investigators worked Friday. He was a World War II veteran with survivors including wife Kathleen Bailey Hook two sons a sister and three grandchildren. Tazewell Woman Killed in Fairfax County Crash

A 27 year old former Tazewell County woman Fredda Jane MacAfee of Manassas died after a collision at the Route 28 and Route 50 intersection west of Chantilly Fairfax County. She was a passenger in the northbound car that ran a stop sign and was struck by a westbound vehicle. Her survivors include two sons a daughter and her mother and four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held today at the Little Valley Church with burial at Hatfield Cemetery.

Robbery at Algoma Company Store in McDowell

The Algoma Company Store in Algoma owned by United Pocahontas Coal Co was burgled during the night. Watches cigarettes and at least two radios were missing. Entry was through front windows despite iron bars on most windows. Deputy Sheriff Woody Hurst and state troopers investigated with no arrests yet.

Marion Woman Killed in Route 16 Crash

A 68 year old Marion woman Mary Thelma Altizer was killed when her car left Virginia 16 and crashed eight miles north of Marion in Smyth County on Friday.

Paul Ennis Epperly of Beaver who was reelected as Justice of the Peace died at 45 en route to Beckley hospital after an apparent heart attack. Illness Fatal To Mrs. Hammond

Mrs. Janet Hammond a former Mercer County Republican committeewoman and past president of the Mercer County Republican Woman's Club died Thursday morning at her Long Beach California home after a two month illness.
