President Spencer killed in wreck on Southern Railway
Lynchburg Virginia November 29 eight people died in a rear end collision near Lawyers eleven miles from here. President Samuel Spencer and Phillip Schuyler were among the dead. The New York and Jacksonville Limited crashed into Spencer’s car and fire followed. The wreck was blamed on the Rangoon tower operator for failing to stop No. 38. Wounded include A E Merrill and Sam Cox among others, with looting reported by some passengers. Spencer, born 1847 in Columbus Georgia, rose through railway ranks to become president of the Southern railway and other lines while serving as director of several major companies.

Two Men Die and Four Hurt in Canadian Northern Yard Wreck
In Winnipeg on November 29 a light engine backed from the yards into an incoming passenger train from St Paul. The engineer and fireman jumped as the locomotive sped into the city, later halted on a sidetrack. A yard gang loading machinery was crushed as the impact hurled gear and men along a flat car. A woman suffered injuries in the first collision.
