Princeton Police arrested Michael Terrence Williams, 37, of Bluefield Virginia, minutes after an armed robbery at First Community Bank Stafford Drive branch. He faced aggravated robbery charges, bond set at 75000, with $3161 cash and a pistol found on him. Police pursued from Stafford Drive to I-77 antes.
Tazewell Virginia. A motion by vice chairman Jim Hale to drop out of the New River Valley Regional Jail failed 3-2 at the county supervisors meeting. The board will hold a public hearing on December 15 at 7 p.m. Tony Casale of the Department of Criminal Justice Service may attend. The proposed regional jail would be located in Radford and decisions involve Giles Floyd Grayson Pulaski and Radford. The county must decide by December 31 whether to join.
VDOT will build bridges in Rocky Gap on I-77 replacing the valley-fill proposal. The contractor’s plan for twin culverts and valley fill was rejected amid local opposition along Laurel Run Road. Residents warned of being cut off if floods occurred. officials cited public input as influential.
Bluefield officials disagree on whether a proposed municipal golf course is dead. Mayor Shields says it isn’t closed. Long says it’s dead unless finances improve. Hammond believes it’s essentially dead. Gilbreath notes the project can be brought up again after being tabled. Brammer was unavailable.
In its 78th year the Community Christmas Tree drive aims for 13000 to fund gifts for 1100 needy children at a noon Christmas Eve party at Bluefield Youth Center. Donations supported by Daily Telegraph offices and mail to P O Box 1599 Bluefield WV 24701, urged by campaign officials and local leaders.
