Raleigh Man Killed in Virginia Two Car Crash

Raleigh West Virginia man Claude Washington Allen aged 53 died Thursday in a two car collision about two miles north of Culpeper on U S 29 in Culpeper County. He was a passenger in Rodney Lee Allen's car of Beckley West Virginia.

Strike Ended By Musicians In Major Network Dispute

A 28 day strike by about 800 staff musicians against NBC ABC and CBS ended with a narrow 270 to 263 approval of a two year contract. The deal raises base pay to 280.70 and overtime to 14.90 while AFL CIO seeks 103.08 weekly raises over three years.

Vietnam War Battle Reports and Casualty Figures

Allied forces killed 96 enemy soldiers in one battle while 25th Division troops killed 37 after a one hour fight nearby. Helicopter insertions met heavy fire. two choppers were shot down. Reinforcements held, seven hours of fighting forced an enemy withdrawal with one body found. In Da Nang area, 7,000 Marines and Vietnamese soldiers reported 249 enemy dead across eight days, with 69 Viet Cong cadres captured. An additional helicopter loss northwest of Da Nang killed five aboard. Total U.S. helicopter losses reach 938. Last week 160 Americans and 246 Vietnamese were killed, while 1,432 Americans were wounded. Since Jan 1, 1961, U.S. fatalities total 29,637 with 187,055 wounded and 1,215 missing.

Strikers Return to Work at New York State Hospitals

Workers who struck four state mental hospitals began returning to work after a bargaining win by the Public Employment Relations Board. Buffalo State Hospital’s day shift was back, Creedmoor Queens and Bronx and Manhattan State workers expected to return Friday. Some Bronx State strikers received suspensions by telegram for alleged violent acts during the strike. Gov. Rockefeller had refused an AFL CIO election, directing talks with the Civil Service Employes Association.

Death Of Local Man Probed In Mercer County

A 45 year old Mercer County man Roscoe Henry Hook died on arrival at Bluefield Sanitarium after being struck on the head and face. State police pursue the case as autopsy is ordered and investigations continue. Funeral arrangements were being arranged at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Bluewell.

Thanksgiving at the Johnson Ranch and Abroad

Three Arrested In Slayings In Roxbury Office

Three men connected to the slayings at the New England Grass Roots Organization in Roxbury were in custody. Dennis Chandler 29 of Roxbury walked into Stoneham police with a lawyer and will be arraigned on murder. Alvin Campbell 35 and Arnold Campbell 33 of Dorchester were held without bail on murder charges. Victims were Guido St Laurent 38 founder Daniel Eaton 33 and Harold King 30. all killed November 13 after three intruders entered the office.
