New South Bluefield High School Planned by Board
The board of education bought over two acres in South Bluefield south of the H. S. Shott property and west of Bland road with an option on the rest of a 10.19 acre Tierney estate tract. A second 5.61 acre site in Brushfork, bought from Mrs. Roce J. Overbay for 7500 dollars, raises total spend to 32,500. The plan calls for a modern six room building at Brushfork alongside the existing Beaver structure to become a vocational high school named Beaver with the rest serving non vocational students as South High. The board aims to locate sites away from heavy traffic and to secure adjacent property for future expansion. The Bluefield South tract may develop into a large campus with athletic fields. the option expires August 1, 1950.
