Louis Shuley, a miner known as a “bad man,” barricades himself in an abandoned Tower Hill mine wing at Linton. A fire is lit to smoke him out after fatally wounding merchant William Watson in a poker room quarrel. Three hundred miners are prevented from working as authorities prepare arrests.
Notice states a 23 percent discount available to taxpayers before Friday November 30th 1906. Deputy Sheriff W P Hawley directs to visit his Bland Street offices for discount processing.
At Midland, Saturday pay night ended in a shooting as Shirley, 71, fired a double gun at his victim in Otis Davis saloon poker room. Three hundred miners cannot work at Tower mine. guards guard the mouth as authorities fear further violence and hope Shuley surrenders.
The oldest Mason in the South dies from injuries after a September storm event. The Savannah native, 83, resided in Mobile County and was a Navy veteran. He had represented several terms in the legislature and was known for his long service and community leadership.
