Death in Beartown mountains ends life of Christopher Bowman
Christopher Columbus Bowman aged 57 of Beartown was found dead Monday morning after a fall in the mountains near his home. He leaves widow Hester Bowman daughter Edna Mae Bowman and stepson Hager Gibson all of Beartown with several half siblings and a half sister. Funeral services will be held the day after at Howard Christian’s home in Lex with Rev. Clyde Roberts officiating and burial at Kerne Cemetery in Paynesville.

Women Jailed For One Year In Bluefield
Two Bluefield women found guilty before Justice of the Peace Charles Caffee Jr. of not good fame faces a year in Mercer County jail or until bonds are posted. One woman is an ex convict with many drunkenness convictions, the other has seven arrests for drunkenness in 90 days and many earlier charges. The case is part of a city drive against habitual drunks and panhandlers, with records showing 35 to 75 arrests on similar charges. Under West Virginia law such cases can be sent to the state for habitual offender hearings.

Logan Teens Escape Deputies During Transfer
Two teenage runaways broke from Logan County deputies while being moved to facilities for transfer. Tommy Marcum, 13, from Mt. Gay, escaped during a health department check. Tazewell Man Waives Extradition In Theft
James Purcell Thompson, 31, of Tazewell Virginia waived extradition before Circuit Court Judge Morton Wagner in Bluefield and was released to Tazewell County authorities on an auto theft charge. Thompson was arrested Saturday night by Constables Lewis Myles and Lewis Perdue. He faced counts of stealing and wrecking an auto in Virginia.
