Va man dies after Buchanan County crash
Harmon Compton 63 of Davenport Virginia died in a single vehicle crash at the Route 620 657 intersection when his extended cab pickup left the road and struck an embankment. He died at Buchanan General Hospital at 1107 p.m. on November 21 following the 945 p.m. collision. He was alone in the vehicle.

Court Won't Force Quick WV Special Election Decision
West Virginia Supreme Court will not decide quickly on a special election to finish former Gov. Joe Manchin's term. Justices gave acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, House Speaker Rick Thompson, and Secretary of State Natalie Tennant until Dec. 27 to respond to a petition seeking a delay, with Dec. 15 for others to join. The West Virginia Citizen Action Group filed the petition arguing postponing to 2012 violates the state constitution. Legislative lawyers say election before 2012 is not allowed.

Health official: Rabid cat exposure rises in Princeton

Hearings on utility hikes scheduled in December
Evidentiary hearings will begin next month on a 13.8 percent base rate increase sought by Appalachian Power and a 15 percent rise sought by West Virginian American Water Company. The Public Service Commission will hear the West Virginia American Water case December 6 to 10 and the Appalachian Power case December 13 to 16. Repairs to burned apartment building begin
