Gas tanker spill prompt cold weather rescue and cleanup
Mercer County EMS reports 1000 gallons of gasoline spilled after a tanker slid into a ditch on an icy hillside. Fire crews drained fuel with about 200 gallons of foam as volunteers, sheltered in a school bus, worked in shifts in temperatures near zero with gusty winds. Ed Moorey of Roanoke, driver of the tanker, was not seriously injured. Fire units from East River, Athens, Green Valley-Glenwood and Oakvale assisted as 60 responders helped upright the truck and complete draining by 7 p.m.
