In Keystone Curry, a company official, is believed to have shot two mine union members. Deputy investigators questioned a suspect after the killings at the mine area. UMW leaders condemned the act and urged full prosecution while officials described the incident as possibly premeditated.
All Union Mines continuing from page one shows main line traffic on the Chesapeake and Ohio through Huntington and branches in the Huntington district affected. Sunday midnight marks the cutoff as Norfolk and Western will discontinue 13 trains and Baltimore and Ohio trims runs. Shifter engine crews yard workers and other coal traffic personnel are receiving furloughs at state railroad centers.
Miss Sophia Erwin of Wheeling died Tuesday in Ohio Valley General Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 at Wheeling Mortuary. She served as president of the Wheeling Quota Club twice and was district governor 1936-38. A former high school commercial teacher, she retired last year due to ill health. Calvin Warner Smith, 87, of 335 Rogers Street, died last night after years of ill health. He worked at the N and W shops before retiring. funeral arrangements are pending.
Funeral services for William Thompson Buchanan aged 83 pioneer farmer of Tazewell county will be held at 2 30 this afternoon from the Buchanan homestead in Thompsons Valley Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery Ministers include Revs P C Foote T A Freeman R E Fritts He was a large landowner in the county with ancestors there before its formation Surviving are two daughters Mrs D P Lowe Minneapolis and Mrs James W Witten North Tazewell and sons Charles A and W T Buchanan of Thompsons Valley His wife died 27 years ago
John M. Tanner 70 a prominent Bluefield Va citizen died yesterday morning at St Luke s hospital after weeks illness He was born in Big Island Va son of Willis W and Fanny Tanner He moved to Bluefield in 1903 worked as traveling salesman for Graham Grocery Eclipse Grocery and Chicago House Furniture He served as municipal judge and belonged to Kiwanis Elks St Mary s Episcopal Church He is survived by wife Elizabeth and daughter Margaret who predeceased him plus two sisters and one brother The Vogue Shop ad and local notices follow

Local Con reports a burglary at Patrolman R H Lambert's home. A ladies wrist watch valued at 65 dollars was taken after an entry without breaking. The thief entered Mrs Francis Hoops's upstairs area, leaving Lambert's door apparently open. The incident caused amusement among officers at the station.
The Black Phantom unmarked cruiser led by Traffic Officer W A Meadows tagged nine speeders two reckless drivers and one unlicensed operator. The twelve violators posted bond and await appearance in police court tonight.
Estil Elliott, 20, of the Bluefield Princeton road, was a patient at Memorial hospital Princeton after an auto accident near Oakvale last night. He suffered injuries while riding as a passenger in a car driven by Paul White who was unhurt. The vehicle skidded, left the road and overturned. Extent of Elliott’s injuries was not known last night. A local note mentions a fish called the sole or witch.
Government seeks contempt against AFL United Mine Workers union and Lewis personally for disobeying a court order directing termination of a contract linked to a miners strike. Lewis reportedly at his Washington office when reporter visited. houseman says he was unavailable. Contempt allegations rest on five grounds including continuing contract termination and instigating miners to strike.
United States marshals serve termination order on mine leader Lewis in the District of Columbia. The crippling coal walkout stalls in Virginia and could extend into next week unless Lewis yields. The stoppage costs about 2,200,000 tons of coal daily.
