Lincoln's Immortal Address Heard Again at Gettysburg
Gettysburg Pa November 19 Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address was recited again at the battlefield park where Lincoln spoke 86 years earlier. Dr Walter Coleman led the reading before a crowd as guards and veterans observed the rededication and a plaque was unveiled by the Lincoln fellowship of Pennsylvania.

National Book Week events brighten Bluefield campus
The library class led a National Book Week program with Elizabeth O Neal Helen Taylor Cornelia Lewis and Betty Jean Ford highlighting reading review and favorite books. The Bluefield State College press group visited the West Virginia Press Association meeting at West Virginia State College. The Omega Psi Phi Minstral show directed by Clyde Oglaskey featured Mable Smalls Frances Smith and Joe Moorman with the Bluefield State Band. The Student Christian Association reports a 200 percent membership gain. Thanksgiving break runs November 23 to 28. Dr J Lee Irving receives John Dewey Society appointment and NEA liaison role for the college.

Funeral for Thompson Hicks Held at Mercey Seat Church
Thompson Hicks died at his Elkhorn home and will be buried Friday afternoon at 2 at Mercey Seat Baptist Church in Powhatan. A 50 year Elkhorn resident and former Justice of the Peace in McDowell County he was born in Bedford Virginia he was brother Deacon J C Hicks and sister Mrs Maggie McKnight survive.
