The Benwood area reports major floods from Crane Creek and Widemouth branches with Giatto near Matoaka seeing houses submerged up to lower windows. Water carving a new channel five feet deep near Wide Mouth. No loss of life or major property damage reported.
Severe 24 hour downpours along the Big Sandy and Guyandotte rivers flood Huntington and Guyandotte. At the Guyandotte mouth the river rose ten feet and washed away bridge supports, cutting gas and water mains and leaving towns in darkness.
Yesterday's downpours damaged the railroad on the main line and Clinch Valley. Powhatan bridge overflowed and traffic was delayed while bridge 330 lost supports. Passengers on the Clinch Valley were moved to Bluefield or the far end of the line. North Fork branch reports washouts but expects rapid restoration.
The Mingo News building in Williamson West Virginia collapsed today during excavation for Strosmider's drug store. The loss is reported at ten thousand dollars.
New York dispatch reports Thomas Fortune Ryan severed official ties with railroads and coal interests and others, citing asset and deposit concerns. Henry D. McDonald declined to provide details, while Ryan aims to shield his affairs from criticism amid curated speculation about disposed securities.

Following the cyclone that swept Alabama reports show high school and other buildings demolished. Three lives lost in Athens county districts, three deaths in the suburbs, crops ruined. A school valued at 20 000 was blown down and several dwellings destroyed.
Roanoke Va November 19 In Roanoke Corporation Court Judge Woods denied a motion to set aside the October 11 killing of Policeman R M Beard. John Hardy the negro found guilty last Friday of murder in the first degree will likely be sentenced tomorrow He says he is going straight to heaven from the gallows and has no funds for an appeal.
A petition signed by 187 New Orleans merchants urged Southern Pacific Railroad general superintendent E B Cushing to end the clerks strike. Merchants said delays crippled sugar and rice shipments at the peak of harvest. Mayor Behriman to confer with strike leaders ahead of a Lafayette conference with mayors along the line to form a peacemaking committee.
Richmond November 19 There is a movement to elect John Skelton Williams former Seaboard Air Line president as president of the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac railway linking Richmond with Washington The road is under Pennsylvania control The stockholders meeting set for today was postponed to December 10th
Elreno Oklahoma November 19 Twenty four members of company B Twenty fifth Infantry were discharged this morning with no disorder and officers showing more regret than the men The men were paid off and Washington ordered withhold further action It is believed those already discharged will be allowed to re enlist and no further discharges will be made
Washington reports fear among Oklahoma and Indian Territory supporters that a constitutional convention may include powerful disenfranchisement clauses aimed at curbing black suffrage. Democrats control the convention while Republicans in Congress may block admission if the constitution appears to deny the negro vote. The Supreme Court has avoided ruling on such clauses, but Congress may insist on changes before Oklahoma gains statehood.

Croswell of Cambridge a Harvard graduate petitions the supreme court for a writ of habeas corpus alleging illegal restraint at Butler Hospital for the Insane Providence R I November 19 He claims abduction from Massachusetts and says his commitment lacks an insanity certificate He was confined since April last year after relatives cited mental overwork and hallucinations He asserts he has been guarded and unable to write home
Fire destroyed the Hotel Windsor in Regina Manitoba today. Sixty five guests were inside. five people burned to death and several others badly burned, with some expected to die. Loss estimated at $100000.
New Haven Conn November 9. The twenty sixth annual meeting resumes with afternoon and night sessions of the National Civil Service Reform League.
