Forty victims of Donora Pennsylvania’s industrial smog arrive in Wilmington North Carolina for a complimentary week long trip. A nurse accompanies them as they travel by chartered plane hosted by the Junior Chambers of Commerce of Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. Ages range from 26 to 74. The group attends a luncheon and will be hosted in homes near Wrightsville Beach.
Egyptian authorities began unloading the cargo of the 10,000 ton American Victory ship Flying Trader operated by Isbrandtsen as authorities claimed the cargo was destined for Israel. The freighter was halted at Port Said after docking Tuesday. The UK embassy in Cairo is reviewing the case at Washington's request.

Washington reports a stepped up U S effort delivering 12 emergency shiploads totaling about 120000 tons of wheat flour and rice to north and central China. Shipments aim to feed 12 270000 residents in seven major cities including Shanghai Swatow Canton Nanking Tientsin Peiping and Tsingtao.
The American army denied reports that Irving Ross was involved in espionage while staying in Vienna. The first official statement since Ross was slain in Vienna on October 31 said little beyond earlier lines and cited Austrian police indicating four men in Russian uniform carried out the murder. The army noted no determined motive beyond possible robbery and said investigators have not identified the killers.
