Rhody McCoy will not be fired, a decision booed by 19,000 teachers. Shanker urges a unionwide vote while Ford Foundation denied illegitimate influence. Ocean Hill Brownsville kept most schools open during the strike amid racial tensions and bitter divides.
Two more telephoned threats prompted evacuations of the men's and women's dormitories at Bluefield State College on Sunday. Police and campus officials conducted searches, found no explosives, and residents were allowed back. President Wendell G. Hardway indicated ongoing searches and consideration of a curfew to curb campus vandalism.
Police in Dorado Puerto Rico say a local detective was shot twice in the stomach during a struggle with a man found in the hotel room of Vice President elect Spiro Agnew. Agnew was absent. a burglary motive was suspected and a manhunt was launched. The Secret Service in Washington said an earlier Dorado shooting did not involve Agnew.
About 100 law enforcement officers from Virginia and neighboring states will attend a three day workshop in Richmond on crime demonstrations and people. The conference is sponsored by the Virginia Commonwealth University law enforcement program under a federal grant. An adviser said the workshop aims to explain background and causes of demonstrations and aid in understanding group behavior.
North Vietnamese are prepared to move toward de escalation and a peaceful settlement. Genuine self determination is the key to peace in South Vietnam, the U S negotiator said, while warning the underlying causes remain. Hanoi still fights and negotiates and keeps troops in South Vietnam and large areas of Laos and Cambodia. Infiltration and military operations continue.

Four masked men robbed Hill's Department Store in the Bridgeport shopping center late Saturday night taking 20000 in cash and checks. The security guard was knocked unconscious and the manager alerted authorities while a getaway taxi was found near the parking lot minutes later.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey, in Miami Beach after his campaign, declined to discuss whether he has been asked to join the Nixon administration. He called the matter private and said he has plans for the future but would not disclose them now. He acknowledged reading reports he might be named ambassador to the United Nations.
