Jail Break Attempt Quelled By Tear Gas

An Arlington County jail break was halted by tear gas after inmates overpowered a guard and seized two hostages. Although no escape occurred from the jail, two prisoners remained at large inside the structure as police hunted them.

Yale Professor Barghoorn Freed by Russians in London

Yale professor Frederick Barghoorn, held in a Soviet jail on spying charges, was released on Kennedy's demand and flew to London. He will reach New York Sunday and go to New Haven to reunite with his mother. Officials say he was relieved and plans no public statement until home.

Four Killed On Virginia Roads In Weekend Accidents

The Associated Press reports Virginia's highway toll rose to 848 with four traffic deaths over Saturday and Friday. A 31-year-old Richmond motorist, George Arten Lee, was fatally struck by two Greyhound buses on U S 460 east of Bluefield during a dispute with another driver.

Two Buses Kill Virginia Man On Highway Melee

George Arten Lee, 31, of Richmond, was killed when two Greyhound buses struck him on the Bluefield Princeton Road during a traffic quarrel with Sam Bourne of Bluefield. The drivers were Booner F. Whicker and Raymond L. Taylor. no charges filed.
