Fire destroys Bluefield Auction Co building after opening
A fire at Bluefield Auction Co on Bluefield Avenue caused an estimated 400000 dollars in damage to the 40000 square foot warehouse used as an antique auction house. Fire Chief Richard Poe said the blaze likely started near a gas heater. Four pumpers and ten firefighters battled the flames from about 12 20 am until late morning with the building total loss. The owners, Jesse Thomas and Mikel Holdren, purchased the vacant warehouse for 13000 dollars earlier this year and planned a regional auction house. Inventory losses were reported around 50000 dollars in stock and 30000 dollars in consigned items.
