Pocahontas Virginia high school student Stacey Parrish, born with cerebral palsy and unable to speak, communicates by headstick typing or eye movement. Despite limitations, she remains popular, was voted Miss Orange and Black, and participates in homecoming.
Stacey Parrish, a teenage girl with cerebral palsy, has thrived in local schooling after a 14 month hip procedure and rehabilitation. She attends school nearly every day, enjoys activities like Ecology Club, and remains close to teachers Mrs. Flora Asbury and Mrs. Patricia Reeves. She idolizes Scott Baio, writes about him, and dreams of a future with family support guiding her care.
Washington reports Reagan lifted the Poland sanctions after allies agreed on a stricter East West trade approach. France disputed being a party to the accord and officials said negotiations would continue to clarify positions. Reagan cited stronger measures among Britain Germany and Italy and noted no reaction yet from the Soviet Union.

Flight director John Cox says the crew will wait one more day for Lenoir to recover, with Joseph Allen possibly performing the walk alone if needed. Spacewear progress and flight flexibility cited as reasons for postponement.
Mercer County mourns the opening of Bluefield Junior High School a 102000 square foot, 25 acre facility with air conditioning, cafe with jukebox, band and choir rooms, a new gym, and energy efficient heating. 1070 city students relocate under one roof as old Central and Fairview Junior Highs are sold. Principal Ken Muncy notes the challenge of guiding staff and visitors in the new maze like building during dedication at 2 p.m. behind the city tennis courts.
