An explosion at the Fort Martin power station blew out sheet metal sides Monday afternoon and 24 persons were taken to the hospital. No fatalities were reported. all injured suffered burns and two men were in serious condition at a Pittsburgh burn center.
Workers renovating St. Makarios monastery 60 miles north of Cairo uncovered a wooden coffin that church officials hope may hold the remains of John the Baptist. Bishop Samuel said an investigation will verify the claim, noting a manuscript reference that he was buried 18 feet from the altar. The Bluefield Towers project in downtown Bluefield, a $18.8 million, 15 story complex, moves toward final interior and exterior plans with offices opening in Bluefield before year end. The trio of towers will house a hotel with 175 rooms, two restaurants, a health spa, an atrium, a 12 story office section, retail space, and a convention center with 155 extra parking spaces planned around the site. The project aims to be a regional business and hospitality hub between the Shenandoah Valley and the Great Smoky Mountains.
