Calvary Baptist church special feature evenings attract interest from members and nonmembers. Last Sunday auditorium was filled as gifts were presented and a sermon followed. This Sunday the topic is Divine Healing with questions invited for later discussion and prayer.
Music Culture Club under president Mrs Harrie met Monday evening at Lowmen Piano rooms. Secretary Helen Jordan read minutes, treasurer Mrs Booker reported. Henry Rodgin Edward Fraser presented a paper on The Symphony. Mozart Jupiter Symphony duet by Gertrude Watts and Louise Moodyer performed. Vocal Mozart era by Cleo Cash with James Elmer Brown on piano. Violin duets by Mrs Rodgin and Mrs McD Harrell.
At the Sunday service the Trinity Church choir will sing an anthem lead us by Lorans and Ratlitt with a solo by a noted singer. In the evening the choir performs a hymn anthem Jesus Paid It All by Beasley.
Mrs Holmes has left for Richmond with her daughter Betty Ann to be at the bedside of Mrs BL Holmes who is seriously ill there. Nurse Mrs Carl Clark went to Richmond to assist and accompany the patient to Bluefield but was unable to travel due to the patient condition. An operation is to be performed today in a Richmond hospital.
A successful autumn dance at the West Virginia Business College Coal and Coke building featured Wiley Cave and his Virginia Commanders providing music from 9:80 to 2. The event attracted guests from the area, praised for its charming atmosphere and colorful decor.
Mine Faye Worter field soloist opens with The Lord Is My Light at the morning service. In the evening the choir sings a beautiful anthem Incline Thine War O Lord and Miss Cousina leads The Lord's Prayer by Milllotte.

The John Marshall and Virginian literary societies held a joint salon last Tuesday to foster goodwill. Yeleda Hammed substituted for Mary Catherine Duan who was absent, gave an authoritative account of the election return as seen in a prominent magazine. Frank Sprinkle performed a piano solo, Robert Hoenaley spoke on Athlete's Hand, and the college quartet sang two songs.
The Alpha Delta Dalla sorority at Bluefield College entertained faculty members their wives and sorority and fraternity officials at Nancy McNealon College Avenues last Tuesday evening from 8 to 10 with a jovial tea. Guests were greeted by Hula Mae Akers and ushered to the receiving line led by Anita Peters Frances Simon Beatrice Sisson and Mrs Olivia Banders. Sorority members wore black and white with gardenia corsages while Nancy McNeal led guests to a decorated dancing room. Lucille Stason entertained with place selections.
Bluefield College opens its debating season with affirmative and negative teams touring Virginia, Tennessee, and likely North Carolina from December 3 to 6. Led by Dean C. W. Owen, the squads include Kahle and Harmon on the affirmative and Phalps and Lazenby on the negative, with Phelps replacing Lenell. Debates feature the prompt: Resolved that Congress should be Empowered to Fix the Minimum Wages and Maximum Hours of Industry. Teams from Memory and Henry, Virginia Intermont, King College, and Leas-McRae are expected to participate. The Bluefield group plans to meet Memory and Henry in Renner, North Carolina, then head north for further encounters with New Flyer, Morris Kaovey, Buckley, and Marshall College in Ohio. After the tour, Phi Rho Pi members Lazenby, Kahle, and others may earn achievement jewels.
The Bluefield College Rambler staff under editor Carl Dawson chose associates at a meeting. Marsvin Lanett and J. B. Alley Jr. lead journalism and business roles with William Pearl Harwan, Henry Johnson Jr., Janie Lambert, Bant Sublette, Walter Woolwine, and James Kahle Jr. as key editors. The first annual debuted May 1026 with editor Willam Keesee and notable contributors.
The Layman's League of Christ Church held its monthly gathering in the Sunday school room with a turkey dinner served by church ladies. Music by Emily Asheworth featured two piano solos, and reports outlined officer rosters for 1937, along with a parish canvas planned for month’s end. Rev. Paul H. Roger attended as a visitor.
The Cat's Head honorary society reformed after a 1992 start, with Betty Tog as president and Mula Mae Tary as treasurer. Ber Club reporter and Lana Kagan abual reporter. Professor W. J. Marabla will again supervise. A social at Roger Bailey's Augusta Street home on November 11 set the year’s activities and a constitutional, colors, and flower committee was appointed. The group plans active educational and social events.
The First Christian church aims for 600 in Sunday school at 8 46 tomorrow. Evangelist and Mrs Darby of San Antonio Texas will be introduced. A church race for the welcome honors and a 1400 mile driver contest add local excitement as 402 attended last Sunday and are invited to bring a guest.
The Rev. Ben 8. Johnson, pastor of the First Christian church, delivered a talk at Bluefield college about the destinies and disasters of war. He urged citizens to strive for peace and to contribute fully to efforts that end war and its bloodshed and dishonor.
The Kappa Omicron Alpha fraternity at Bluefield College honored the Delta Beta Kappa sorority at an outstanding Thursday evening dance hosted by Guy Clatterbaugh. President J. B. Alley Jr. and social committee chairman Roy Thompson A B Davis and Howard Jarrett planned monthly events and approved a new initiation.
The Tau Beta fraternity extended an invitation for a football game which was accepted by the Kf. C. A. paneagee. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Chappell are parents of a daughter named Mary Sue born at Bluefield sanitarium weighing TH pounds. The mother before marriage was Mig Mabel Biyena. The Nttla girl arrived on Wednesday Armistice Day the eleventh month the eleventh day and the eleventh hour. Personal notes mention Mrs. W. A. Bodell of Hinton, formerly of Bluefield, at the West Virginia hotel, Mrs. Lillian May returned from a trip to the west coast, and Mrs. Ida Pinthick improving at Bluefield sanitarium after a blood transfusion. Mr. and Mrs. J. Hampton, 4330 Princeton Avenue, are parents of a fine daughter. The coloring in higher animals is caused by a colorless chromogen acted upon by a ferment.
