President Boris Yeltsin told U.S. senators in a letter that Americans were held in Soviet camps after World War II and some were executed while others lived in the Soviet Union voluntarily. Mayor Martha Moore and Saunders praised veterans and community support while Rockefeller thanked retirees and urged ongoing national service.
Princeton reports the state Department of Highways released a brief analysis of options for upgrading Route 20 between Athens and Princeton. The analysis aims to aid choosing the best alternative and follows inquiries from the Oct. 28 public hearing. DOH Commissioner Fred Vankirk sent a Nov. 4 letter to the Route 20 Action Group, providing most information needed for an intelligent recommendation, according to attorney Larry Austin.
John C. Shott and Scott H. Shott were honored by Riley-West Post No. 9 at the Greater Bluefield Community Center as 1992 recipients of the American Legion Distinguished Citizenship Award. The ceremony noted the brothers’ long community service and their family legacy in Bluefield.
