The Daily Telegraph prints a five day outlook for Bluefield and Princeton with cool, cloudy conditions and scattered rain. Record highs for Nov 10 include 69, 82, and 85 with a low of 21 in 1973. Day by day details note highs around 54 to 39 and nightly lows from 41 to 25 with possible rain and light snow.
The National Weather Service forecasts snow flurries today in a band stretching from Kansas northeast to Michigan and another from Texas northeast to Indiana. Rain is expected in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia. Sunday highs and lows range from 8 degrees in Cut Bank Montana to 90 in McAllen Texas.
A northern Plains snowstorm stranded hundreds and killed at least five people as road crews fought drifts and outages. Interstate 29 near Drayton North Dakota and a highway near Eagle Butte South Dakota remained blocked. Devils Lake North Dakota logged 25 inches, Bismarck 18 inches, a November record, with gusts up to 66 mph in Minnesota. Police reported 5 foot drifts and 6,000 power outages, while deer hunters in South Dakota pressed on despite dangerous roads.
In Atlanta, economists warn lingering effects from the 1979 and 1986 droughts will push thousands of Georgia and Southeast farmers toward foreclosures as hay shortages and high costs bite. Crop and livestock losses near 2 billion dollars. officials urge herd reductions to stretch supplies ahead of winter. Farmers fear payments tied to the fall harvest.
A New York AP report notes Americans favor broad smoking restrictions but oppose a total cigarette ad ban. The poll for ACS AHA and ALA shows 62 percent support ads in magazines and newspapers, while nine of ten back no smoking sections, and half support ads in stadiums.
In Chicago area four people insist they own Illinois Lottery’s $2.9 million prize from November 9 1985 but cannot show the winning ticket. Lottery spokesman Dale Arvidson says other claimants gave wrong purchase locations and investigations proceed on the four remaining Chicago area submissions.
