City cler k Mrs R B Kerfoot presented a list of delinquent licenses with collection efforts. The board assigned treasurer M B Postlethwaite to pursue all overdue accounts. The American Legion secured Municipal Auditorium for a November 17 boxing event. The meeting, moved to Wednesday due to election day.
A slight fire yesterday afternoon at the Mercer Dry Cleaning plant on Wythe Avenue caused damage to several garments but not to the building. Firemen from the South Side and Central stations responded to the alarm and extinguished the flames.
Walter Harman was indicted by the Tazewell County grand jury on the charge of staying Bill Phillips. Phillips' body was found in a stream in the Poor Valley area after being shot in the back. The indictment was returned while the grand jury was in session in Tazewell on November 9.
