John Knill becomes London’s new lord mayor in a parade described as a military affair. An allegorical procession was abandoned by the incoming official’s direction, yet the pageant remained an engaging spectacle for spectators.
Sir John Knill formally assumed the London mayoralty succeding Sir George Truscott. The lord mayor's show was toned down to a military naval parade featuring Grey guards line regiments, Royal Naval School Greenwich, Boy Scouts, and eight Balaclava survivors cheered along the line. Lady Knill rode in a carriage with sixteen maids. Knill, a Roman Catholic son of 1893 mayor Sir Stuart Knill, heads John Knill & Co. with Thames landing wharves among oldest. He belongs to goldsmiths and plumbers companies.
The new Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Fenway was formally opened at a cost near one million dollars. The granite building covers over 60,000 square feet with offices lecture rooms libraries and classrooms on the ground floor. The main floor is for exhibitions and the right halves of both floors display Egyptian Archaic Greek and Renaissance art while the left halves show Japanese art and Renaissance works.

Chicago reports that missing Edgar manufacturer Max Cogen and his fiance Beatrice Shapiro are presumed to have been passengers in the car that plunged into the Chicago River Sunday night.
