After years of planning and construction, Mercer County Health Department workers count the days until moving into new quarters replacing the deteriorating former building. The facility sits on Green Valley Mercer A-2, awaiting completion and occupancy.
A federal judge dismissed the case filed by three estate administrators claiming Alpha Natural Resources failed to pay $1.5 million each under a government settlement for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy will film at Alpha Natural Resources Running Right Leadership Academy in Julian to create a training video for underground and surface mine emergencies funded by a $50,000 MSHA Brookwood-Sago grant.
