Golfer hits two holes in one at Liberty Lake course
Chris Varallo aced the third hole and then the 11th in the same round at Liberty Lake Golf Course near Spokane. Odds against back-to-back holes-in-one sit around 67 million to one Golf Digest notes. The 22-handicapper and attorney finished 101, 31 over par, amid crowd reaction.

U S forces press Fallujah offensive into insurgent strongholds
U S troops backed by air and artillery launched a ground assault to seize Fallujah’s insurgent bastions. Two Marines died as a bulldozer overturned near the Euphrates. A military spokesman said about 42 insurgents were killed before the main assault. Tanks and Humvees entered the Askari neighborhood while jets targeted the Jolan district.

Sex offender Wert's return to Mercer delayed again
Mercer County may wait ten more days to reacquire convicted child sex abuser Larry Franklin Wert. Wert, 52, of Princeton, was captured by San Antonio police after a traffic stop. Authorities notified Mercer officials November 6 that Wert remains jailed without bond and extradition hearings are set for November 18, delaying his transfer back to Mercer.

Canvassing of votes begins in Mercer County
The Mercer County canvass started on Monday with 52 challenged or provisional ballots approved for counting. District I precincts were completed and officials will resume Tuesday at 1 p.m. for District II. County Commissioners John P Anderson and Karen Disibbio led the process with the election staff and others assisting. Eddie Belcher oversaw the proceedings.
