California brush fires drive 600 from Silverado Modjeska canyons
In Santa Ana two canyons Silverado and Modjeska were engulfed as winds up to 55 mph fanned new brush fires. About 275 homes were in the path or threatened and evacuees used buses, trucks, and personal vehicles to flee. No serious injuries or damages reported despite 4,400 acres burned.

Injury Fails To Faze City Building Chief
City building inspector E. W. Rutherford sustained a deep cut to his left hand while inspecting electrical work on a new residence on Spring Grove avenue. A stepladder slipped as he cut tape from a wire with a pocket knife, requiring 12 stitches at St. Luke's hospital. He returned to work at his city hall office despite the injury.

Charleston, November 8. Auditor Edgar B. Sims announced a first-half utility tax distribution totaling 4,524,275 to 55 counties and municipalities for general county and school purposes. Counties received 4,220,000 and municipalities 304,275 with Bluefield 11,000 Princeton 8,000 Welch 2,000 among city allocations.

Narrows Tot Killed When Hit By Auto
Seven year old Billy Eugene Meadows of Narrows Virginia died after being struck by a westbound car driven by Earl Hubbard of Whitesville West Virginia. The accident happened at 6 30 p m Sunday at U S Route 460 and the Colonial Heights road intersection. He died at St Elizabeth's hospital at 8 30 p m of internal injuries. He is survived by his parents a twin sister Peggy and four other siblings. Funeral services will be held at Second Presbyterian church in North Narrows at 11 a m with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

King George VA School Board Faces Appeal Over Dropped Courses
