Inmates Escape Mass Shootout at West Virginia Penitentiary
Fifteen inmates armed with automatic weapons seized the command center at the West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, fatally shot off duty state trooper Philip Kesner and fled in a car and on foot. Roadblocks sprang up in West Virginia and neighboring Ohio and Pennsylvania as a large manhunt began.
